Flowers and Insects by *DrowningByWords:iconDrowningByWords:

Wild wilting flowers and ghosts
sigh in the snow and miss everyone.

Insects are drawn to flowers like unknowing pilgrims.
Love finds us like how flowers trace God and insects seek flowers,
sat together in a congregation wrapped around the world.

Insects and flowers wanting to know called back to a place beside God,
watching the movement of clouds, trees and grass.
Wishing nothing would change wondering does true love exist.

Winter long tears fall on petals hearts sway
springing hope as far as the eye can see across a field.

Flowers stay true to themselves,
staying loyal to the sun and earth.
Scared of life,
In comparison insects can never stay still,
forever itching to reach their dreams.
Scared of dying.

Each blade of grass is like the glimmer of a distant star,
full of possibility and hope calling you back beside me.

Love grows from a seedling to a blossoming flower,
only to be left in the corner of the room withering.
Beside a bed to dry up like wilting wedding flowers
or funeral flowers in the sun walking together in the past.

Searching through the wind and rain
hand in hand with the friend I never had.
Finding my self clenched in torchlight shone into my eyes,
a bouquet made up of every flower from a future friend beside my present.

Petals delicately fall asleep some stay and some get blown into dreams,
scattered stars like soft petals call you back beside me.

Although pest insects attract the most attention, many insects are beneficial to the environment and to humans. Some pollinate flowering plants (for example wasps, bees, butterflies, ants). Pollination is a trade between plants that need to reproduce, and pollinators that receive rewards of nectar and pollen. A serious environmental problem today is the decline of populations of pollinator insects, and a number of species of insects are now cultured primarily for pollination management in order to have sufficient pollinators in the field, orchard or greenhouse at bloom time.

Insects also produce useful substances such as honey, wax, lacquer and silk. Honey bees have been cultured by humans for thousands of years for honey, although contracting for crop pollination is becoming more significant for beekeepers. The silkworm has greatly affected human history, as silk-driven trade established relationships between China and the rest of the world. Fly larvae (maggots) were formerly used to treat wounds to prevent or stop gangrene, as they would only consume dead flesh. This treatment is finding modern usage in some hospitals. Adult insects such as crickets, and insect larvae of various kinds are also commonly used as fishing bait.

The Roman goddess of flowers, gardens, and the season of Spring is Flora. The Greek goddess of spring, flowers and nature is Chloris.

Many flowers have important symbolic meanings.
Red roses are given as a symbol of love, beauty, and passion. Daisies are a symbol of innocence. Irises/Lily are used in burials as a symbol referring to "resurrection/life". It is also associated with stars (sun) and its petals blooming/shining. In the UK, Australia and Canada, red poppies are worn to commemorate soldiers who have died in times of war. Flowers within art are also representative of the female genitalia, as seen in the works of artists such as Georgia O'Keefe, Imogen Cunningham, Veronica Ruiz de Velasco, and Judy Chicago, and in fact in Asian and western classical art. Many cultures around the world have a marked tendency to associate flowers with femininity.

In modern times, people have sought ways to cultivate, buy, wear, or otherwise be around flowers and blooming plants, partly because of their agreeable appearance and smell. Around the world, people use flowers for a wide range of events and functions that, cumulatively, encompass one's lifetime including christenings; tokens of love, decorations within the home; weddings and funerals.

After endless nightmares she lies weeping in her bed
A blade in her hand, her nightdress is turning red
Her skin becomes paler in this cold and stormy night
This is the end of all her painful dreams of suicide
